Living outside of Charleston, SC, I am surrounded by the most charming country churches. These Lowcountry Churches are completely different from the ornate churches in downtown Charleston. The country churches are humble in structure and are full of rustic simplicity. Modest in shape and size, each church has its own prominence and each one never fails to captivate me.
This sweet piece is created from several pieces of salvaged wood and accentuated with Found Objects such as nails, screws, wire, metal scraps, washers, nuts and bolts. Found Objects always have a magical quality to them so its only appropriate to use them to adorn and accent this little white church. Stained glass windows have been made from recycled cardboard and tissue paper. A Choir Lady and a little girl warmly welcome the viewer. Each visit to a country church has been such a heartfelt experience for me so I wanted to be sure and capture that warmth and hospitality. A large red door and two friendly congregants greet you on either side of the church.
This church can stand or be hung. It is one of my signature pieces and I take great pride in celebrating and honoring the rural Lowcountry churches.
