I hope to convey several messages with this mixed media piece. First, the title of the piece is "Broken Hearts Can Heal." The focal point of this assemblage, a large heart is made with over 50 broken things. The material used is an interesting bunch of imperfect, fragmented and reclaimed objects I found on many walks while working on healing my own broken heart. The imperfect found objects carefully linked together symbolize that there is always the possibility of coming together in a new way to find completeness and wholeness.
The use of a green background to offset the beautiful rusted patinas of the found objects was chosen for a reason. This composition is sustainable and created from recycled materials as a way to celebrate being an EcoFriendly artist.
A wooden canvas is used as the base of the piece. I chose broken twigs to frame and accent the outside edges to add extra dimension and interest.
While collecting the found object materials and creating this piece, I was able to heal my own broken heart.
